Message From the Veterinarian Hospital

I was feeling pretty good when I picked up my mail this morning.  Then I opened the envelope from the Vet hospital where I took Big Guy and inside was a sympathy card.  As soon as I saw the paw print on the front of the card, I lost it.  Then I opened the card and inside was the following...

The Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here,
that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.

There are meadows and hills for our special friends so they can
run and play together.

There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm
and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and
vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong
again, just as we remember them in our dreams and days and times
gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they
each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance.  His bright eyes are intent.  His eager body
quivers.  Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green
grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted and when you and your special friend finally meet,
you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.  The happy
kisses rain upon your face, your hands again caress the beloved head, and
you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from
your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together…

I had a smile on my face along with tears streaming down as I read it in the middle of a parking lot.  I didn't care if anybody saw me.  I also felt better because of the visual I got reading the poem.  I know I'm not the only one who has lost a loving pet, so this is for you, too.

Still hanging in there,

Jeana

P.S.  Last post I said I was going to complain about MiFi today.  I think this is a lot better.

  6. I first read that poem when my Shih Tzu Molly died. She was a few weeks away from 18 years old. It still makes me tear up when I read it.
I am so sorry you lost your wonderful companion and best friend. Mike and I have both been under the weather and not on line for awhile so I missed that blog post. Thinking of you!

  7. We have been busy moving into our new land house and I have gotten behind on blogs. Just now read that you have lost your friend. My condolences. It is such a difficult thing (I used to show dogs so have been through it many, many times) and non-pet-owning friends often don't understand how close we are to our furry children. Glad to hear you will eventually get another.
We still haven't left Vancouver but planning to go south around the 10th of January. Will look you up when we get to Tucson! Looking forward to meeting you.

  8. That is a special poem, I think there is a website for it as well. Someone sent it to me years ago when I lost my 16 yeas old cat. MiFi...I'll be interested. I just got a Verizon MiFi and am considering using it at home instead of my HughesNet satellite. It is faster and seems to work more consistently with my government work site for soils. Looking forward to what you have to say. I'm still testing.

  9. My Gingee taught me how to love more deeply and more completely. What would we do without our animal babies? I understand.

  10. Hi, Jeana,

I have been following your blog since before the days of Olivia when the picture started out with four windows. I have never commented before, but I wanted you to know that I just went through the sale of my house with only 3 weeks to clean out a 3-bedroom house full of 25 years worth of "junk," and I have to tell you how much your "getting rid of stuff" posts helped me find the strength to get through that!

I also wanted to tell you how sorry I am to learn about your faithful companion. I know how that must hurt, but I will know for you that you are surrounded by lots of caring friends in your new Alfa!

I am considering making the MiFi plunge, and would love to know what it is that was about to warrant the headline in the next post. If you are not up to posting, can we please chat about it via email?

    Thanks,
    Suzanne

  19. I like to think that Rich and Lizzie are at Rainbow Bridge watching over all the pups who wait for their humans to come join them. They are in safe hands. No one loved dogs more than Rich. I left a comment on the wrong post. Glad I found you. I have a Big Guy, too. His name is Jack.
