Where'd the Sun Go???

I'd like to welcome a new follower...Kerri from Homeschooling Solo.  Her dashboard states that she's in the process of unschooling her son and daughter which I find very intriguing and would like to learn more.  Maybe I'll go read her blog.

We got the weather neener neener today and we're back to gray and rain. Sometimes it feels like Mother Nature is just checking to see how much we can tolerate.  Maybe that should be how much I can  tolerate instead of we since I'm not sure about the rest of you up here in the Northwet (not a typo), although I have an idea.  Now I understand why it was difficult to get out of bed this morning.

My son and I have been having daily email communication which I'm thrilled about.  He usually takes his sweet bippying time to respond but he's been really prompt  for about a week.  He's going to graduate from college in July and I want to get him a really special graduation gift and my first thought was an iPad.  So I asked him if he'd want one and found out he just bought a MacBook Pro, so no on the iPad.  Now I don't know what to get him.  Any ideas for me?  He's 31, career Air Force stationed in Germany, his first child is due in September and I adore him.  Because he finally bought a Mac we are now a Mac family...my daughter-in-law bought hers first, then me, and now my son.  I actually bought my first Mac in 1993, used it for years and then had a brain fart and got a PC laptop.  When I regained my senses I bought another Mac.  I know those might be fighting words for some of you PC people, but I really like Macs.

Since I'm missing the sunshine I thought I'd go back to my time in California and share some sunny pictures.  I went and spent half a day at  The Living Desert in Palm Springs and here are some of the pictures I took...

While I was standing outside the gates waiting for them to open I happened to look up and saw this...

I wanted to get the moon and palm tree together but had a horrible time focusing so this is what I ended up with.

There's a hospital on the premises and they do physicals daily and the public is welcome to observe, and I was there on cheetah day...

With patience, I think I had pretty good luck getting pictures of cats and not just the drugged one...

From cats to butterflies and hummingbirds...

I've never seen a hummingbird nest until now...

I think it's just cute as the hummingbird in it!!

The butterflies were everywhere and we were warned to watch where we were walking so that we didn't step on any, such as this one...

Purple being my favorite color, I couldn't pass these up...

The area where the egret was living was probably the coolest place, temperature wise, that is...

I don't remember if the wise one was in the same place but it doesn't matter...

I think this is an iguana, but I might be wrong...

The Bambi family was represented (unless this is a goat but I don't think so)...

Let's see, cats, birds, butterflies, to name a few.  Did I miss anything?  Oh, yes...

To end on a funny note...

I enjoyed reliving that day...thanks for going along with me.

Missing the sunshine,

Jeana

  1. I'm sending you some of our sunshine but you'll have to take the heat with it. Not pleasant.

We are having a dry spell as it hasn't rained here in many months. My lawn is dead. Brown and dead. We used to have our monsoons in April - then they started coming in May - now here we are in June and still no rain.

    Enjoyed the photos.

  2. Wow, you got a couple of great pictures, the bob cat and caracal are great. Usually they are asleep! Did you know a caracal can jump six feet straight up in the air? In the wild they knock birds out of the air.

  5. It is crazy hot and scary dry down here right now. Forest fires all around. BUT, the sun shines every day.

Hey, I wanted to mention that we've reevaluated our Berkey needs and may go with the Go Berkey kit, or the Travel Berkey. If you're interested, also check out http://getpreparedstuff.ecrater.com/. I've dealt with him before and like his responsiveness; also, his prices are the best I've found.
